Samsung’s flagship the Galaxy S III is among the most capable Android mobile devices on the market today and its powers aren’t confined to just raw computing power and a great display.

The S III is quite the connectivity beast, as tech blog AndroidNZ was eager to demonstrate in a lengthy video. They put the Galaxy S III through its paces by hooking it up to various devices, flash drives, hard disks and other gadgets to see if it delivers.

And surprisingly, the Galaxy S III didn’t have any problems connecting to game controllers from an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. If you are curious what else was tested, check the full video below, which runs from almost half an hour.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is launching in a couple of varieties across the globe - internationally, the SGS III with model number GT-I9300 has a quad-core Samsung Exynos chip and 1GB of RAM, and that’s a pretty potent combo already. Stateside, though, the Galaxy S III strips the Samsung Exynos clothing for a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip with a dual-core Krait processor with built-in LTE, but doubles the RAM to 2GB.

Now, here’s a combination that brings the best of both worlds - a Samsung Galaxy S III with both a quad-processor AND 2GB of RAM. Bad news? It’s expected to land only on Korea’s SK Telecom in July.

Still, here are the technical details that make this silicon beast of a phone so unique:

- quad-core Samsung Exynos 4412 with CPU clocked @ 1.4GHz
- 2GB of RAM
- 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD screen
- 4.82 ounces (136.5 grams)
- 0.35 inches (9mm)

Of course, SK Telecom’s GS III features a 2,100mAh battery, like all other versions and comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich preloaded. We don’t expect this to come to stateside, and possibly anywhere else except for Korea, but it’s a hint of what to expect in the near future from high-end handsets.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13937827926004492206noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7093127638846300898.post-35125896090964289052012-06-07T13:20:00.004-07:002012-06-07T13:20:41.509-07:00Samsung Galaxy S III torn down on video

The Samsung Galaxy S III is probably the most sought after Android device to have come out ever, but with such a huge demand comes the higher chance of one in millions buying the phone accidentally dropping it and cracking the screen. We’d feel a chill if we did - the device costs around $750 off contract after all.

But if you crack the screen, or just want to peek inside the Galaxy S III to see what makes it tick, now there’s a video walkthrough of how you can disassemble the gadget. We've already seen the step by step instructions to opening the S III, but while those were only pictures, now you have a full video so you can pause, rewind back and forward, and generally feel safer prying your device open. Interestingly, the first teardown showed that the new Samsung flagship features the very same camera as the one on the iPhone 4S.

This here video is around 20 minutes long, so you definitely have all the details you want. Take a look below.

If you have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S III, here is a neat trick that you might want to check out, especially if you are into shooting videos. Custom ROM maker hyperX has developed a software modification that allows superfine 1080p video to be captured at 30Mbps, thus theoretically increasing its quality even further.

Those who find that a bit of an overkill can select the 24Mbit fine mode, or the normal 1080p mode at 19Mbps. In addition, the 720p video modes have been tweaked, so superfine footage is captured at 19Mbps, while the fine and normal settings adjust the bit-stream to 15 and 10Mbps respectively. No matter what mode you pick, audio is recorded at 192kbps. If that is not enough, the developer is working on enabling 60fps video with his mod, although his efforts have been unsuccessful so far.

The modification adds a few minor tweaks as well, such as the ability to launch the camera during calls, and to take photos while shooting video by pressing the either of the volume keys. Interested? Then follow the source link below to learn how you can add these goodies to your Samsung Galaxy S III. Be aware, however, that the procedure is not for novice smartphone users and it might void your warranty, so proceed only if you know exactly what you are doing.

Nearly everyone is anticipating the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S III here in the US, but Verizon customers might want to know something of interest that surrounds the version that the carrier will be blessed with.

As we know, Big Red’s version of the Galaxy S III will be surfing on its extensive CDMA network domestically – with 4G LTE in tow to satisfy those demanding web surfers out there. However, it’s now being confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon Wireless will eventually gain global roaming support, though, it’ll be absent during its initial launch with the carrier.

In fact, Verizon mentions that a future software update will be made available that will unlock the 2G and 3G roaming capabilities of the handset when it’s abroad in other countries. Needless to say, that’s yet another wonderful thing to know, as we’re sure there are some customers who frequently travel outside of the US. Rather than having a separate handset on hand for the occasion, these Verizon owners can rely on the Samsung Galaxy S III for all their needs.

Indeed, it’s great news for those who are planning to pick up the handset when it’s launched, but there is no exact timing on the availability of this software update.
Some of the covers displayed white blotches that could be seen when viewed at a specific angle. This, of course, led to some shortages and delays overseas where the phone has already been launched.

The good news is that it would appear that stock of the pebble blue Samsung Galaxy S III has started to ship in Europe. This comes from SamMobile which reports that the Dutch subsidiary of the Carphone Warehouse, The Phone House, on its site says it has stock of the pebble blue version of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Now this doesn't mean that you will find this variant of the phone everywhere, but at least it does appear that Samsung is starting to dig out of that 600,000 unit hole it dug itself into. And in the States, this appears to be a complete non-issue

An alleged press photo for Samsung Galaxy S III for T-Mobile has leaked out, thus revealing the design of one of the carrier versions of the US bound smartphone. Perhaps the biggest surprise about the handset's appearance is that it is, well, identical to the international I9300. The same goes for its color scheme.

It looks like we might see the end of carrier versions looking differently than the globally available model. We will find out if this is the case when Samsung officially unveils the US availability of the Galaxy S III. We suspect that the wait won't be long.

Samsung has announced that it will be launching the highly anticipated Galaxy S III smartphone in US on not two or three but five major carriers. The phones will go on sale beginning this June and will have a starting price of $199, although the exact launch date and price will be announced separately by the individual carriers later.

The phone in question has the dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 processor with 2GB of RAM, instead of the quad-core Exynos 4 Quad and 1GB RAM on the international model. The reason for this switch is to include support for the US LTE bands.

Samsung mentions that the phone will have customized services depending upon the carrier but there is no information regarding whether this will only be limited to network plans or will extend to software and hardware customizations. It does seem though this time, unlike with the Galaxy S II that had various hardware configurations across the carriers, the Galaxy S III will remain the same.

As mentioned before, no exact launch dates or pricing has been mentioned but you can look forward to individual announcements from your favorite carriers detailing these things shortly.

Verizon is one of the five carriers to start offering the Samsung Galaxy S III this month and leaked pictures show that the device will virtually be an untouched version of its international GSM sibling.

Android Central got their hands on some photos of the Galaxy S III for the Big Red, which, excluding the 4G Verizon logo on the back, is the same as the GSM model of the device. The only difference is it runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chipset with 2GB of RAM.

Samsung have decided not to alter the Galaxy S III as much as they did with the Galaxy S II lineup last year and launch the device with the same outfit as everywhere else. This seems to be the case with the US-bound T-Mobile version and the one sold by AT&T, as well.

Speaking of launch, it's yet unclear when Verizon is going to put the Galaxy S III on the shelves, but it will surely be sometime this month.
After all the manufacturing problems and 600.000 destroyed Pebble Blue polycarbonate plastic back covers that did not meet the company’s quality standards, it looks like Samsung has completely changed the color of the darker Samsung Galaxy S III variant.
The Samsung Galaxy S III has only been out for a couple of days in some 28 countries, but Samsung has already posted its full source code at its open-source repository.

This shows not only that Samsung is following the Android guidelines, but that it cares for developers, who we are sure will be quick to come up with their custom ROMs for the quad-core Galaxy S III.

So far, the source code is the one for the international version of the SGS III, known as model GT-I9300, but not for the upcoming US-specific models. Hit the source links to get the zipped files containing the source code and stay tuned for the first custom ROMs.

We got sent photos of the line for the Samsung Galaxy S III launch in Startford's Westfield store, and it seems north of 30 people were queuing outside at the time to be one of the first getting their hands on the latest flagship Android. The line continued inside up to the counter with an estimated 80+ people in total, which are Apple-esque launch day numbers.

Stock has been quickly dwindling, though, especially considering the tight supply of the Pebble Blue version, which will see wait times of up to 2-3 weeks now. UK carriers and retailers are also reporting wait times, with O2 pinning it at 5 days, Vodafone has it for delivery in up to 4 days, and T-Mobile saying it will be available after today.

Online retailer Clove will be shipping after June 1, and if you are heading to a store, better ring it up first, as reports are that the initial stock has been already depleted in many places, so save yourself a trip if you don't have to. Amazon UK has the SIM-free Ceramic White shipping June 8 for 500 pounds, and the Pebble Blue is still on preorder, so don't get your hopes high.

Based on a couple of entries in the carrier's computer system, the 16GB variant of the device will be made available in either white or blue. None of the U.S. carriers has yet to officially announce the device, easily the most anticipated Android phone of the year with 9 million units pre-ordered overseas. As we've told you, that makes the Samsung Galaxy S III the fastest selling device in history.
It wouldn't be out of character for the Samsung Galaxy S III to be available at U.S. Cellular, considering that its predecessor model, the Samsung Galaxy S II, is currently available from the mobile operator. We would expect the major carriers to get first crack at the phone and speculation is that T-Mobile will be launching the unit on June 20th, so don't expect the device to hit the U.S. Cellular line up for a few weeks after that date. Despite some delays, the Samsung Galaxy S III was officially launched globally on Tuesday

A photograph of an early version of the pebble blue Samsung Galaxy S III was obtained by mobile bulgaria.com. The picture is supposed to show white splotches on the back cover which did not meet the Korean manufacturer's high quality standards. However, the blotch is not easy to see as it is below the surface and the back has to be at an angle. While it might not jump out at you, if you keep staring at it like one of those Magic Eye pictures, eventually you will see it. Hopefully this doesn't take as long to figure out as the white version of the Apple iPhone 4 did. Apple was said to have tried a number of coating combinations in an attempt to keep the light from leaking from the white casing.

Ironically, with the Samsung Galaxy S III, it is the white version that is not affected by the manufacturing problem. Does it really matter to buyers of the Samsung Galaxy S III which color they buy? Would you change your pre-order to a white model from a blue one if it meant getting the phone earlier? Obviously it meant something to Samsung to make sure that their new flagship phone was launched without a blemish because destroying 600,000 already manufactured back covers doesn't come cheaply. Then, there is the cost to run off another 600,000 replacement covers. But it had to done because if there is one thing that you can't put a price on, it's a company's reputation.

Corning and Samsung officially confirmed that Samsung Galaxy S III uses Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

Corning Gorilla Glass 2 was revealed at CES 2012 in Las Vegas earlier this year, it’s 20% thinner than the previous generation but still provides same impact and scratch protection.

Hankil Yoon, senior vice president of global product strategy, Samsung Electronics, said, “Following Samsung and Corning’s successful cooperation on the previous GALAXY S series smartphones, we are pleased to offer our customers the thin elegance and refined style of the GALAXY S III using Corning Gorilla Glass 2. New Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is an ideal solution for Samsung’s high-quality smartphones, enabling a superior touch experience and a lightweight and slim design, with the damage and scratch resistance consumers have come to expect.”

Haeng-Hee Lee, president and general manager of Corning Korea Company, Ltd. added, “We are excited about the introduction of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 because it provides device makers with numerous design benefits without sacrificing toughness. With Corning Gorilla Glass 2, Samsung GALAXY S III customers will enjoy an enhanced smartphone experience.”

Great news, but looking at this photo provided by Phone Arena, Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is not “indestructible” (one unlucky Galaxy S III owner found this out the hard way.) Ouch!

An official confirmation was received that Samsung is delaying the Pebble Blue Galaxy S III units due to some manufacturing issues regarding the paintjob and the panels' material.

The official statement went like this:

Samsung’s Galaxy SIII Pebble Blue version comes with a newly invented blue colour and special hyper-glaze material.
In order to meet the highest internal quality standards and to provide the best quality Galaxy SIII to customers, a short supply of Pebble Blue version is expected in some regions in the next 2-3 weeks.
Samsung is working hard to ensure that customers will get the Pebble Blue coloured devices as soon as possible.

We now got some info on what has actually caused the delay from an insider source. The reason is a manufacturing error in the front and back S III panels. Apparently, the blue shades of the two parts didn’t match, but the discovery was made only after the units were already shipped to the retailers. So, Samsung is now pulling back all blue Galaxy S III units in order to replace the panels.

The Samsung Galaxy S III premiere is today and the Marble White version is widely available. Reportedly, there are some very limited stocks of the proper Pebble Blue Galaxy S III, but we doubt you’ll be able to find one.

So if you were after the blue S III, we afraid there's no escaping the 2 to 3 weeks waiting.

It appears that some Samsung Galaxy S III units won't make it in time to the UK.

Clove has informed preorders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III will be delayed until June 1st, rather than the announced May 30th release date. The blue variant is expected to be delayed even further, with supplies set to be available on June 5th, although that date is tentative.

Crosstown retailer Vodafone has stated that the 16GB version of the white S III will be available on tomorrow’s launch date, while the 32GB version will face an unspecified shipping delay. This same delay applies to both the 16GB and 32GB blue variants of the device.

Delays to the Pebble Blue version were expected as early as last week, with an alleged several hundred thousand blue cases being scrapped by Samsung due to unspecified manufacturing issues.

The Galaxy S III is one of the most anticipated in recent memory.

Samsung have confirmed that the Pebble Blue variant of the S III could be in "short supply in some regions in the next 2-3 weeks."

Whether "some regions" means the UK, or "short supply" indicates a flat out delay can only be speculated on. Although Samsung have not commented on problems with the manufacturing process, the rumors of issues they were having with the hyperglaze material on the blue S III sound much more legitimate.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13937827926004492206noreply@blogger.com0Mumbai, Maharashtra, India19.0759837 72.877655918.835877699999998 72.5617989 19.3160897 73.193512899999988tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7093127638846300898.post-8538617555278738692012-05-30T07:15:00.000-07:002012-05-30T07:15:01.826-07:00Galaxy S III released in 28 countries around the world

The phone has already seen a very strong demand, with a huge number of pre-orders from the carrier and being the most pre-ordered Android phone on Vodafone UK so far. People have even been lining outside stores in London to get the phone, which is ironic since that is the exact thing that Samsung made fun of in their ads mocking iPhone users.

Samsung has also released a new chain of mobile retain stores called Samsung Mobile PIN placed in Londons, which are small stores placed in popular destinations. They will also be doing a World Tour
shortly in Australia, India, China, US, Japan, Korea and nine other countries.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is already starting to appear up for pre-order for early buyers, but while on Amazon it costs a hefty $800, the new listing for the Galaxy S III on Expansys USA prices it at the much more affordable $694.99.

The handset sells unlocked and with no carrier ties, so that means you can freely use it anywhere in the world. Also, placing the pre-order now wouldn’t charge your credit card and the website will still ask you if you really want to but the phone when it’s in stock. All of that comes with no cancellation charges, so for those of you wishing to be among the first to get the SGS III, this seems like a good option.

Of course, you can always wait for the carrier versions of the SGS III. After all, you’d probably still need to sign up a contact to get a relatively good deal on data. The price on contract will be much less, between $200 and $300.
Although it is not supposed to be on the market just yet,
the Samsung Galaxy S III can already be purchased in Dubai, apparently.
Advertisements for the highly-anticipated smartphone were spotted at a mall by
a fellow Reddit user, who initially presumed that only pre-orders were being
accepted. However, after a brief conversation with a store employee, it turned
out that the white version of the next Galaxy was in stock indeed with plenty
of units waiting to meet their new owners. And if that is not enough, the
Samsung Galaxy S III was priced at about $667, which is considerably cheaper
than what Amazon is currently asking for the device.

from today. And for those who happen to live across the pond, sorry, but you
will have to sit tight and be patient as the device's U.S. version is expected

With Samsung introducing the Samsung Galaxy S III, it looks
like Verizon will have a model of the device that will be launched next month
when the other U.S. versions of the phone are released. And for those unsure
still, of Verizon's intent to launch the Samsung Galaxy S III, you will be
happy to learn that the SCH-I535 has received thumbs up from the Bluetooth SIG.
The model is listed as being a CDMA phone and while that obviously is way too
broad a definition for us to feel assured that it is a Verizon variant of the
Samsung GalaxyS III, we can refer to the model number and find that SCH-I535
refers to a smartphone that went through the Nenamark Benchmark website wearing
the Verizon brand.

Just about every article around has been giving the upcoming
Samsung Galaxy S III generally good reviews except for one downside: the
casing. Everyone, including us, were convinced that the Galaxy S III was using
a plastic case, but we just got word from Samsung that the phone is better than
you think. There had been some confusion over the Samsung Galaxy S III casing,
but the word straight from Samsung is that the case is in fact made of
polycarbonate, not just regular plastic.

The word that we got straight from Samsung was that the
Galaxy S III casing is in fact polycarbonate, but we wanted to make sure that
mean the entire case, including the battery cover, and it took a bit of time
for the confirmation to come back, but here it is direct from Samsung:

Polycarbonate is used
on the battery cover. Polycarbonate is lightweight, solid and is already being
widely used in the mobile industry. It was chosen as the best material to
represent the minimal organic design of GALAXY S III. Using three layers of
high quality, pure and clear polycarbonate, not only is the phone’s aesthetic
elevated, but the durability and scratch resistance is maximized.

This is a pretty big deal because once you get past the
flowery marketing language given by Samsung, the basic fact is that the case is
polycarbonate and not plastic.

Polycarbonate is one of those strange "premium
materials" because it's not always apparent by sight and touch that it is
higher quality. With glass and metal, we know automatically that we're dealing
with premium materials. But, polycarbonate can look and feel just like regular
plastic, even though it is far stronger and more durable.

From the research we've done, polycarbonate can be as much
as 300 times stronger than average plastic. Unfortunately, the hardness scales
and various impact resistance scales are different for plastics/polycarbonate,
than things like glass or metal, so it's difficult to get measured comparisons
of polycarbonate and say Gorilla Glass, aluminum, or the LiquidMetal that Apple
is said to be using in the upcoming iPhone. However, we were able to get some
numbers that were pretty interesting.

One material that can be measured on the same scale as
polycarbonate is the Kevlar fiber that is famously used on the Motorola RAZR.
Depending on the type of clear polycarbonate used in the Galaxy S III casing,
it should be harder, but possibly not quite as strong as the Kevlar fiber.
Clear polycarbonate can have tensile strength in the range of 10,000-10,500,
flexural strength between 12,000 and 17,000, and compressive strength around
11,000; meanwhile, Kevlar fiber has a tensile strength around 12,500, flexural
strength around 17,000, and compressive strength around 16,000. However,
polycarbonate does rate slightly higher on the Rockwell Hardness scale at R118
compared to R115 for the Kevlar fiber, and polycarbonate is also a bit higher
on IZOD impact resistance.

Tensile strength and flexural strength are very similar, and
determine how much a material can bend before developing localized deformations
or breaks in the material. Compressive strength is the measure of a material's
ability to withstand crushing force. It's reasonable to expect that
polycarbonate won't have the compressive strength or scratch resistance of
various metals that can be used in device construction, but it certainly could
provide tensile/flexural strength on par with those materials.

So, all in all it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S III will
have a much stronger, durable, and scratch-resistant surface than we all
expected. It may not be the strongest material available, and given that it
still can look similar plastic, it may not be the most visually impressive
material available, but it should be better than we expected, and certainly far
better than standard plastic. Of course, we know that looks play as big a part
in device construction as many other factors, so it remains to be seen if the
"plasticky" look of the Galaxy S III can be overcome with the added
strength of the polycarbonate casing in the eyes of consumers.

We told you all that the Samsung Galaxy S III has a case and
battery cover that is made of polycarbonate, not just regular plastic, which
means the case is much stronger, more durable, and more scratch resistant, even
though the case may still look and feel like normal plastic. Probably not to
anyone's surprise, there was an outcry by those who stood by the idea that it
doesn't matter if it's polycarbonate or regular plastic, because it will still
have a similar "feel and look" to plastic. It seems to us that
there's a fundamental problem with this line of thinking, which is tied
directly to one of our favorite topics: word usage.

We were careful to not lump polycarbonate together with
regular plastic despite the fact that polycarbonate is a type of plastic, is
because of the general connotation that "plastic" is cheap and
flimsy. This is not at all the case with polycarbonate, which we found can be
on par with the Kevlar fiber case found on the Motorola RAZR. Trying to lump
together polycarbonate and regular plastic is like lumping together the Samsung
Galaxy S III and the G1 in the same "smartphone" category. Sure, it's
technically correct, but you lose quite a lot of meaning by doing so.

Still, this idea that plastic is cheap and generally bad
came through along with the cries that the phone still looks and feels bad. The
trouble with making statements like this is that, unfortunately for polycarbonate,
not only is the word "plastic" tied to the idea of being cheap and
flimsy, but the look and feel of plastic is tied to that idea as well. And,
with the rise of polycarbonate, it may be time to reset our definition and
ideas about plastics. Polycarbonate isn't just a "fancy name", it's a
completely different class of material.

This kind of reset on how we view material is a new and
strange idea. Glass and metal have always had the benefit of having
associations with strength and beauty, but plastic has not. That's why we
wanted to make the distinction between polycarbonate and plastic. The casing of
the Samsung Galaxy S III is not the same as the material used on keyboards,
mice, game controllers, or remote controls. That's regular plastic, which can
certainly be cheap and not feel very nice. But, polycarbonate is no more the
same material as that as is Gorilla Glass compared to glass used in a champagne
flute.

As ever, it comes down to the question: why? People are
certainly allowed their own opinion as to what looks and feels better than
something else, but before you judge, just ask yourself, "Why do I feel
this way?" Because, there are a lot of things in our lives these days that
are made of plastic, so we have a certain idea of what plastic is, how it
feels, and what that feeling means. We know that if we drop the remote control
on a hardwood floor, there's a good chance that battery cover is going to
break, because it's just simple plastic. And, if another device has a similar
feel, we may assume the same build quality, and transfer the same biases to
that new device.

But, the truth is that polycarbonate is far stronger and far
more impact resistant than the plastic found in most consumer electronics. If
you drop a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, or if you take the battery cover off too many
times, one of the notches may break because that is plastic. The same shouldn't
happen with the Galaxy S III, and the polycarbonate is the reason. It may look
and feel similar, but that doesn't mean we should think of it as the same as
regular plastic. Plastics can cover an extremely wide range of quality,
texture, and strength. Plastic is everywhere, but not all plastics are made
equal, and that's something we should keep in mind when it comes to
polycarbonate.

It is a pretty hefty download at about 800MB, and Odin is included for flashing it, but you can also download only the S Voice APK if that's what you are most curious about. Now let the real work on alternative ROMs and ports of the newest Samsung TouchWiz Nature UX begin.
